REGIOGREENTEX – Strengthening innovative textile circularity in Europe’s regions

In the framework of the European Green Deal, RegioGreenTex is a project promoting the collaboration in research and development for the textile industry to establish a systematic circular economy business model across the EU.

Project scope
Developing a unified textile ecosystem and market in the EU along the entire value chain (from raw material production to the marketing of finished products), in which circular economy practices are stimulated. This will be achieved through targeted investments in developing regional ecosystems, in line with a systemic approach, which will reconfigure the European textile value chain into a new framework, aligned with circular economy practices.

Objectives

1. MAP NEEDS
Map the needs and potentiality in the implementation of a circular economy among European regions and clusters and their different levels of economic development.

2. BUILD ECOSYSTEM
Build a dynamic recycling textile ecosystem at European level by making demand and offer meet on a shared digital platform.

3. SUPPORT SMEs
Support SMEs pilot projects to accelerate the creation, development and use of new textile materials with increased recycled content by sharing technologies and methodologies.

4. CREATE HUBS
Create five regional textile recycling hubs in line with the ReHubs initiative and consistent with the EU textile strategy and with the needs of SMEs.

5. GENERATE INVESTMENT
RegioGreenTex ultimately aims at generating investment opportunities at regional level beyond the project.

RIS3 domains to which the project is addressed
– Textiles
– Environment / Circular Economy

Financing programme
Interregional Innovation Investments Instrument (I3)
Strand 1: Financial and advisory support for investments in interregional innovation projects (support for mature joint innovation projects in shared S3 areas)
Topic 2:  GREEN TRANSITION

Partners
RegioGreenTex promotes the collaboration in research and development between 43 partners from the four major sectors of society – industry, government, research institutes, and the public – for the textile industry. Partners come from 11 regions in 8 European countries:
– Flanders (BE)
– East Netherlands (NL)
– Hauts-de-France & Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (FR)
– Piedmont & Tuscany (IT)
– Norte Portugal (PT)
– North East Romania (RO)
– Catalunya & Valencia (ES)
– Västra Götaland (SE)

From the North-East region, in addition to the North-East RDA, the following entities are direct partners:
1. Mai bine Association – with design from recycled products
2. Katty Fashion SRL – with digital circular economy solutions

NERO HUB (North-Est Romania’s Hub for Circular Textiles)

Among the activities of the project is the development of 5 virtual HUBS (with the possibility of becoming physical structures) for the circularity of textiles, one of which in the North-East Region.
The 5 hubs were selected through a contest of expressions of interest, to which the North-East RDA also applied.

Mission:
Promoting a value chain of circular textiles with zero waste in north-eastern Romania.

Objectives:
– adapt concrete circularity and sustainability goals at strategic level;
– engage forward and backward in the value chain, to help support the adoption of recycled textiles;
– expand infrastructure for consumers and businesses to increase textile-waste collection and incentivize the sorting process.

NERO Hub partners:
North-East Regional Development Agency Nord-Est (hub coordinator)
Katty Fashion SRL
Mai bine Association

Implementation period:
1 Jan 2023 – 31 Dec 2025 (36 months)
